While any child may dread a trip to the doctor’s office, it is essential to their overall health that they receive all of the necessary check-ups. It is common to be unsure about what physicals your child needs and what they may entail, especially as a first-time parent. Here at Pediatric Associates of Plainview, we offer a Pediatric Hearing Test in Nassau County as well as other physical examinations necessary for tracking and determining the health of your child.
Yearly physicals are crucial to the health of your child and are required by any educational facility that they are attending. These examinations allow doctors to track any changes that have occurred in your child since the last visit. In addition to offering a Pediatric Hearing Test in Nassau County, our pediatrician will take note of your child’s height, weight, and body mass index on growth charts during each visit to compare their development to other kids of the same age and gender.
Your child’s blood pressure, hearing, and vision will also be tested. You should also be prepared to answer questions about their sleep, eating, and exercise habits. These questions will help our pediatricians gain a better understanding of your child’s overall health. Depending on their age, puberty may also be discussed. If any issues arise by the end of the examination, the next steps and solutions will be discussed.
Does your child plan on attending summer camp or participating in sports? To get proper clearance for this, they will need to receive what is called a preparticipation physical. This examination is performed to determine if your child is healthy enough to partake in the desired activities. The two main components of a preparticipation physical examination usually include:
1. Evaluation of Medical History: History of past medical conditions, injuries, family injuries, and medications currently being taken will all be assessed during this portion of the physical.
2. Physical Examination: Height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, reflexes, flexibility, and vision will all be tested and recorded during this portion of the physical.
After the Pediatric Hearing Test in Nassau County as well as other exams, our pediatrician will determine if your child is cleared to participate in the requested activities. They may also provide tips to avoid sustaining any injuries.
Physical examinations are a vital part of your child’s development. Whether it be a yearly physical or an examination to determine if they are healthy enough to partake in certain activities, our team at Pediatric Associates of Plainview is here for you. Should this take place, it’s important to have multiple masks ready for your child to wear, in case one becomes lost or damaged. Also, sit down with them and discuss the importance of wearing a mask.
When children completed the remainder of their last school year at home, it was likely easy to monitor their sanitation habits. Signs in Children
A hearing screening is how you can tell whether a child has hearing loss or not. It is a straightforward, painless, and short procedure. For babies, they should have a hearing screening no later than one month of age. For children, they should have a hearing screening before they go to school. Or earlier, if you notice certain signs of hearing loss. For both babies and children, if they do not pass their hearing screening, a full hearing test should be administered as soon as possible.
While there is no single treatment for every individual, the best treatment plans include close monitoring and consistently following up. There are many different communication options when it comes to children with hearing loss. For example, sign language, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and in some cases, medicine and surgery.
If you think your child has difficulty hearing, visit Pediatric Associates of Plainview for a Pediatric Hearing Test in Nassau County. Getting a hearing screening is the first step in identifying the issue before it becomes worse and more challenging to treat, so call today!
